Upgrading
Thinking about upgrading from Windows XP to Vista? The recommendation is that you remove XP first and then upgrade to Vista, that way you don't have old registry settings and other things that have been mucking up your system. This is a much more involved process and will require more work. Check our articles section on this page for some detailed information about upgrading.
Minimum Requirements.
Microsoft has a list of the recommended and the minimum required components to run Windows Vista. below is a chart that lists these requirements. Remember that the last list is a list of the MINIMUM, to run any additional programs you would want to make sure you had above and beyond the minimum.

- 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
- 512 MB of system memory
- 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
- Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
- DVD-ROM drive
- Audio Output
- Internet access (fees may apply)

While all editions of Windows Vista can support multiple core CPUs, only Windows Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise can support dual processors. |
